Small towns are always interesting. What one defines as small can greatly vary. My hometown, to me, is small. Marshall, Illinois has a population of about 4,000 people. While my girlhood was spent in Valparaiso, Indiana, Marshall is my “hometown.” Welcome to the Midwest.
I could not believe my ears when I heard that The World’s Largest Knitting Needles and Crochet Hook were located just 18 miles from Marshall. While home for Thanksgiving, I made a special trip just to check them out.
The size of these is quite amazing. The knitting needles measure in at 13 feet and .75 inches. They each weigh 25 pounds! Ouch! I’m glad I’m a “hooker” and not a knitter! The crochet hook is 6 feet, 1.5 inches. And at 9 pounds, its much heavier than something I want to be holding for my next project.
Be sure to check out their website, as well as their amazing video of The Yarn Studio owner Jeanette Husinga actually using the hook and needles to create the 10×10 squares needed to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records. They are located inside The Yarn Studio. This little shop is stocked to the brim with amazing yarns. They have a comfortable space with a place to sit and stitch. The Yarn Studio is quite the place for the fiber enthusiast.
